The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will start implementing the five-year validity of driver’s licenses starting October this year.

Currently, professionals, non-professionals licenses are valid only for three years.

The LTO plans to initially implement the extended validity period in the NCR, and would later be applied to the rest of the regions.

Galvante said that the extension would ease transactions at the LTO as it would take a longer time before license holders need to renew their IDs.

Meanwhile, the LTO chief said he is optimistic that the problem on the issuance of the driver’s licenses will be resolved within the year in compliance with President Duterte’s directive order to lessen queues at the agency.

The LTO is in the process of procuring additional plastic cards to address licenses backlog, which reached over one million as of July 15 and that government would release 400,000 licenses per month starting November.
