Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr. has revealed the names of his son Kerwin’s alleged protectors as well as  the latter’s network of connection in the illegal drug trade in Eastern Visayas region.

The beleaguered mayor, whose lawyer Rogelio Bato Jr. was shot dead by unidentified assailant on Tuesday in Tacloban City, submitted an affidavit linking his son to several public officials who are allegedly Kerwin’s protectors.

PNP Regional Director PSSUPT Elmer Beltejar told InterAksyon that Espinosa’s affidavit include names of ranking police generals, local government officials and other individuals from different sectors.

Espinosa went to the Albuerra police station seeking custodial protection on Wednesday, one day after his lawyer’s assassination.

The list submitted by Espinosa supposedly did not only contain the names of Kerwin’s protectors but also other names that showed links of drug syndicates in at least two regions.

“It should not be self-incriminating against him. Mag substantiate lang ito ng mga link sa diagram sa mga drug syndicates sa region 8 at sa region 7, [This will only substantiate the links in the diagram of drug syndicates nin regions 8 and 7]” Beltejar explained. “The affidavit is substantial because we discovered new names that we didn’t see before.”

Meanwhile, Espinosa refused to give more statement after submitting his sworn statement which has now been subscribed by the provincial prosecutor’s office.

Beltejar also confirmed some of the names given by Espinosa in the list were already included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s own list of ‘narco-politicians’.

On Espinosa’s request for police protection, Beltejar said they can only protect the mayor if he agreed to stay inside the police station.

Nevertheless, Espinosa’s request has to be forwarded and approved by Albuera police chief Jovie Espenido and the regional director.
