Quezon City officials, Mayor Herbert Bautista and his brother, 4th District Councilor Hero Bautista, are facing administrative and criminal complaints following the latter’s admission that he is taking illegal drugs.

GMA News Online said in a story published Friday that the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) filed complaints before the Ombudsman accusing the brothers with “dishonesty, neglect of duty, misconduct and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service.”

In another story, the Inquirer said the two local officials are facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, Quezon City Ordinance Adopting the Anti-Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation Program, Quezon City Ordinance Implementing The Drug-Free Workplace and the Revised Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service.

Hero earlier admitted that he was “a victim of drug menace” but Herbert readily defended that his brother is not “a drugs protector.”

Despite this, VACC Chairperson Dante Jimenez questioned Herbert why did he not order Hero to step down out of “delicadeza” [courtesy].

Jimenez also insinuated that there are two top cops in the Quezon City Police Department that are involved in peddling drugs.

To this, Herbert responded that he is not involved in protecting these cops.

“He [Jimenez] is concluding that because the two generals linked in the illegal drug trade were former QCPD Chiefs, ergo the mayor is too,” Herbert said.
“Just for the record, I am not involved in choosing the district director of QCPD,” he added.
