Jim Paredes, a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, is recorded to have said back in 2006, 20 years after the EDSA People Power movement, that he wanted a “strong leader” who “bends rules a little bit” and a kind of government that can “knock down some people” after his dismay at the Cory Aquino government that he described as “masyadong nagpapogi, masyadong nagpa-pressure, masyadong, ah…it was too accommodating.”</div>

Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism published an article containing a podcast of Paredes’ statements and reflections on post-EDSA 20 years later where he saw that the government that replaced the Marcos dictatorship failed in delivering the democracy it promised to the people.<br />

“Now when I look back, I think we should have knocked off a few people…”<br />

“I think we as a people needed a whip that went with it, and Cory was not it… I think she was too self-conscious about not being a Marcos or being “Marcosian”, she didn’t want to appear like she was a dictator so she was too soft, I think. But I think we should have knocked off a few people…”<br />

“Dati ang hinahabol natin was democracy at all costs, because we felt that democracy was going to deliver. Now the democracy that we have experienced did not deliver. I don’t think the people care very much what the form is. You could put a strong leader there, who bends rules a little bit. I think you could take that as long as the outcome is good,” Paredes said, which now stands contrary to his sentiments towards President Duterte despite the latter embodying the strong leader who bended rules a little bit and produced concrete positive outcomes.<br />

The Duterte administration is plagued with allegations of extrajudicial and vigilante killings attributed to its aggressive anti-drug war campaign which is pivotal to protests of anti-Dutertes. Although himself anti-Duterte, Paredes said back then that “there is injustice if you don’t do justice anyway. There is injustice in not catching crooks. So, err on the side of zealousness. I would have gone that way, anyway,” and when he was asked if that means lining up the crooks against a wall and shooting them, he replies, “Oh, that would be nice, too. You know what? I wouldn’t cry over it if it happened.”<br />
<br />
His dismay at the Aquino government stemmed from the fact that it squandered the leadership that the Filipinos gave to them after EDSA. The reforms and changes that the people wanted actualized were held at bay and corruption, debts, and various coup attempts emerged.<br />
<br />
“I don’t think they were as bold as the people wanted them to be…masyadong nagpapogi, masyadong nagpa-pressure,” Paredes said “they should have run to the people. But [they didn’t because] what happens is that when you sit in government, the people don’t count anymore. It’s the other forces that count — the armed forces, the politicians, the moneyed, business. The people don’t count. They should have run to the people and the people would have protected them.”<br />
<br />
It is clear that Paredes wanted a revolution for the Philippines back in his 2006 interview. When asked about his opinion on the possible repercussions that a strong government would have on the people’s freedoms, Paredes boldly commented that “there is no such thing as absolute artistic freedom, any freedom. Freedom is relative. I would be willing to be more responsible about it…but I will not give it up. If it is the government’s duty to curb (artistic freedom), then let them curb it but I will not give it up.”<br />
<br />
Paredes felt in the era of a post-Marcos regime that the only way for liberal democracy to work is “with a strong leader” reasoning that “kung malakas-lakas yung leader mo, who can sort of – I mean, to pardon the expression – can sort of kick ass, no, matatakot ka to tangle with a strong President eh, kahit Senate President ka pa.”<br />
<br />
He even said that if a strong leader who embodies those qualities would emerge, he “would be willing to give that leader a chance”, however all his conclusive statements about a revolution in 2006 wavers in the face of issues bombarding him now.<br />
<br />
He lambasted Pro-Duterte supporters and decries the President for the so-called authoritarian rule despite being ready to support this style of government more than a decade ago.<br />

On Tuesday, the AFP and <b>Malacañang </b>Palace confirmed what the government feared to be true - a reliable source had indeed informed them that <b>Kantner </b>was beheaded on Saturday. </div>

<b>Senate President Franklin Drilon</b>, who has served the Senate as its leader throughout the years, was removed from his post following <b>Senator Manny</b> <b>Pacquiao’s </b>motion. </div>

On February 27, Monday, Pacquiao motioned that the <b>Senate President's Pro Tempore </b>position be vacant. Drilon didn’t oppose the Senator and promptly stood up from his seat. </div>

He said, “I will not interpellate Senator Pacquiao. I second the motion.” After this, Pacquiao went on to nominate <b>Senator Ralph Recto </b>to be Drilon’s replacement. The motion was seconded by Senator <b>Francis </b>“<b>Chiz</b>” <b>Escudero</b>. </div>

A former San Beda classmate and roommate of President Rodrigo Duterte detailed why activist-musician Jaime Ramon “Jim” Peredes hold grudges against the current Philippine President.<br />

Lawyer-businessman Atty. Rafael Bencamino, said during a Radyo Agong interview on Friday that Paredes dislike Duterte since college.<br />

According to Buencamino, the Paredes-Duterte feud started when Paredes lost to Duterte in an inter-college Extemporaneous Speaking contest sometime in 1971 – Duterte’s last years in San Beda.<br />

“Natalo siya (Paredes) sa speech contest, freshman siya noon sa Ateneo, medyo mataas ang pride kaya hindi natanggap ang pagkatalo. Dahil aktibista sila, hinimok niya si Rody na sumali sa pagiging aktibista, ngunit tumindi ang pagka-insulto niya nang tumanggi si Rody”, Buencamino said.<br />

“I think Paredes’ life is full of failures and disappointments in politics that’s why he is jealous especially to the people who beat him earlier. Social media personality and Mindanation writer, Rocky Gonzales, discussed the prolific Yellow figures that bannered the People Power and who are now gradually uncovered as greedy and corrupt.<br />

Among the figures given were Ninoy Aquino, Cory Aquino, Noynoy Aquino, and Bambam Aquino who are held as the biggest Yellow figures and Aquino clans people who “claimed the prize for the struggle that the multitudes risked and lost lives for. They stood over the ordinary Filipino’s shoulders and stole a spot in history.'<br />

Gonzales emphasized that on EDSA's 31st anniversary, “we will once again come together as a nation, one with our brothers and sisters in the far reaches of the globe, the Filipino diaspora,” one that knows its true purpose and true heroes.<br />

The Aquinos rose to stratospheric fame from the People Power Movement of 1986. They claimed the prize for the struggle that the multitudes risked and lost lives for. They stood over the ordinary Filipino’s shoulders and stole a spot in history.<br />
<br />
Ninoy Aquino was a man driven to his death by his insatiable greed for power. He bartered away our claims to parcels of our ancestral lands to rally support against Marcos (http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2013/03/13/918984/ninoy-vowed-drop-sabah-claim-get-kl-support-vs-marcos?nomobile=1). He would see the Philippines fractured, falter and fail in his quest for power. Even when Marcos showed him clemency after being sentenced to death by the courts, he would not stop. He came back to the Philippines not as a hero but a man feverishly lost in his desire for greatness. Only death gave him the peace which eluded him in life.<br />

Cory Aquino is the weeping widow and would-be saint of EDSA. With her hands, she fashioned a government that reinvigorated the oligarchy and bled the masses. He has made himself out as the antithesis of his father’s aggression and the next step in evolution of his mother’s incompetence and passivity. His regime started with the Manila hostage tragedy which saw the deaths of several Hongkong nationals and our diplomatic relations with China. This he took to cataclysmic heights by refusing to resolve the South China Sea dispute through diplomatic channels with qualified personnel. He used backdoor dealings with devious and self-serving personalities with vested political and economic interests-Trillanes and Pangilinan. Then he pushed this strained conversation even further by filing a unilateral case against China (https://thegreedbank.wordpress.com/about/).<br />

He has set the stage for a war that we could not hope to survive. Internally, his dearth of personal intimacies saw him sire narco trade and politics, the collapse of the MRT, the spate of institutionalized criminality like the “Tanim-bala”, Riding-in-Tandem, DAP and PDAF scams, License Cards and Plate fiascos, and the SAF44, Al-Barka and #BigasHindiBala massacres. These highlighted his apathy to the plight of the poor as well as his willingness to overlook and even support his errant friends in key government positions to the detriment of the country.<br />

He walks the same dark alley with his progenitors-a path that would see our nation on its broken, bloodied and calloused knees begging from its oligarchy and other foreign states.Throughout the grim narrative of what the Aquino family has contributed to our nation’s past, the Filipinos have remained vigilant in its struggle, in its desire for democracy. What happened in EDSA was the unity of purpose and passion of the country which was stolen by one family.<br />

We will reclaim what was stolen from us in EDSA and begin anew in Luneta at the Quirino Grandstand. Yes Mr Pimentel, we are indignant, we are appalled, and we are repulsed when you recklessly and wantonly invoke your non existent privilege.<br />

We are sickened by your waving of your institution's false sense of power, and we are dismayed that you think that it is a birth right or the advantage that goes with the office.<br />
<br />
Mr Pimentel, the senate is but the upper chamber of a bicameral legislature. The "upper" is merely the designation and is the differentiation from the lower chamber, or the House of Representatives.<br />
<br />
But nowhere does it say that you are so<br />
above the people. In fact, all of you in government are supposed to be public "servants."<br />
<br />
And your temerity to describe your office as sacred and august, so much so that law enforcement officers cannot make an arrest, is disgustingly the height of impunity!<br />

In fact, if we look at how messed up our country is right now, how damaged, how fractured, how inequitable and how unfair the common citizen has been governed, the Senate has a large imprint on this wreck.<br />

Last night Mr Pimentel, you and the LP senators have foisted upon the Filipino the egregious and abominable act of disrespect and disregard for the rule of law. You have shown us how drunk you all are with power and how you constantly abuse this power for your own interests.<br />

You continue to misread and you continue to underestimate our esteem. You still carry that warlord and elitist mentality, and believe that we are so dumb and so subservient to your mighty standing.<br />
<br />
No Mr Pimentel. The times have changed, and we will no longer tolerate your abuse and misuse of your office.<br />

Respect and courtesy will no longer be an automatic benefit alongside your title as Senator.<br />
<br />
No sir, you senators cannot demand respect and courtesy, most especially when you are perpetrators of crime and corruption. When one of you refuses to be beholden to due process and try to evade arrest when criminally charged before the court of law, that senator becomes a fugitive.<br />

And when you misuse your "hallowed" chamber to harbor this fugitive, you yourselves become criminals as well. The least of your crime is obstruction of justice.<br />

The popular trending political news site, <b>Dugong Maharlika </b>came out with an article about the "corruption in Antonio Trillanes' Family" early on  Friday, <b>February 24</b>, <b>2017</b>.</div>

The article was a callback to the claims made by <b>Atty Rico Quicho </b>against the senator from <b>2015</b>. </div>

For those who wish to refresh their <b>memories</b>, Atty. Rico Quicho served as former <b>Vice</b> <b>President Jejomar Binay's </b>lawyer a few years ago. He represented the former vice president when he was being investigated for graft and corruption.</div>

<b>Senator Trillanes </b>was very vocal about his disapproval Binay's allegedly ill-gotten wealth. He seemed determined, in 2015, to put the former vice president behind bars. </div>

Naturally,  this did not sit well  with the former vice president's legal representatives. In <b>August 2015</b>, Atty. Rico Quicho reportedly did his own <b>research </b>on Trillanes. And claimed that based on his investigation, Trillanes also seemed to be hiding something. He was refering to records showing that Trillanes hired consultants who seemed to him to be a little too overpriced. </div>

Based on the investigation by Quicho, it was revealed that the senator's consultants did not submit accomplishment reports to the Commission on Audit to help check the fees they allegedly received. </div>

On <b>Friday</b>, <b> February 24, 2017</b>, <b>Senator Leila De Lima</b> officially presented herself for arrest at the <b>Senate </b>at <b>8:00</b> in the morning. The senator was then escorted to the <b>Muntinlupa</b> <b>Regional Trial Court </b>and later transferred to detention facility in <b>Camp Crame</b>. </div>

<p>EDSA People Power Day on February 25, 2017 (Saturday) is expecting numerous rallies, walkouts, and protests coming from the Yellows, who are identified as the Liberal Party (LP), and the United Democracy and Duterte Supporters (United DDS) with the latter announcing a worldwide solidarity demonstration to happen on the day.<br />

All participants of the United DDS protests are required to wear red or blue with some organizers offering free shirt printing.
