Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III went to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to study and learn the real situation of the OFWs there, says in a report, bringing along with him P500-M worth of financial aids to OFWs.

Bello said that they are there to help the OFWs and they should not be shy about it.
“We are here to learn your real status and I don’t want to get doctored information … Don’t be shy in telling us your problems,” Bello said
According to Arab News “The Philippine government has stepped in to help Filipinos going without pay at Saudi Oger with SR40 million immediate financial assistance.
Newly elected President Rodrigo R. Duterte sent a high-profile team that comprised Atty. Guiling Mamondiong, new chief of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA); Silvestre Bello III, labor secretary; and John Bertiz, Acts-OFW partylist Congressman”

Bello arrived on Friday bringing with him the P500 million aid. Each OFW will get P20,000 (SR1,667) plus P6,000 (SR500) for his family back home.
“Lahat ng mga na-displace at maging ang mga na-repatriate ay bibigyan … kukuha po tayo ng kumpletog imbentaryo … maryoon silang ibinigay na listahan na umaabot na sa more than 10,000 kaya sa aming computation ay umabot na ito ng 500 Million,” said Bello.
“Do you eat three times a day?” Bello asked the staff of the Philippine embassy in Riyadh.
“We are not taking care of our heroes,” Bello giving a clear message.
Bello also took the opportunity to thank the Filipinos in Saudi Arabia for Duterte’s landslide victory during the May 9 polls.
“I am also here to convey the sincere thanks of the president,” he said. “Your landslide vote gave the president victory.” Bello said.
