The well recognized International Mathematical Olympiad,was recently held in Hong Kong starting July 6 to July 16 where the Philippines has bagged awards,ranging from gold, silver to honorable mentions.

The olympiad had over 600 tough contenders from 100,different countries all set to take home the glory for their countries. It had almost been 3 decades yet this is the first ever,win of the country in the said competition, and the,farthest we've gone so far. Gold medalists, Farrell Eldrian Wu (Makati Gospel Church-New Life Christian Academy) and Kyle Patrick,Dulay (Philippine Science HS) have managed to whoop an outstanding 30 and 29 points,respectively. Clyde Wesley Ang (Chiang Kai Shek College) and Albert John Patupat,(DLSU Integrated School) have also gained an amazing 24 and 23 points respectively taking home,silver medals. Vince Jan Torres (Sta Rosa Science and Technology HS) and Shaquille Wyan Que) were,awarded honorable mentions too.

Overall, the country ranked 17th for a score,of 133 beating last years 36th rank.

"This brought us closer to Southeast Asian,powerhouses like Thailand (#12) and Vietnam (#11), and ranked us higher than usually strong countries,like Bulgaria (#18), Germany (#19) and Romania (#20). This is the best finish of the country,since it first participated in 1988." The Philippine IMO team posted on its Facebook page, which had,garnered 1.2k likes and 477 shares from proud netizens.
