John Arceneaux an American citizen shows his support to President Duterte as he posted a video on Facebook, telling a story of his friend who asked him why he supports the President of the Philippines.<br />

“I was asked by a very close friend that I had for years, why do you support President Duterte from the Philippines, because he is being called a human rights violator?”<br />
<br />
John responded to his friend and defend the President against false accusation.<br />
<br />
“I responded saying, just because amnesty international and the UN and the news media in Australia, and certain other oligarch driven machine say that a man is a human rights violator, doesn’t mean that the western media narrative is true”, John said.<br />
<br />
John also explained how the past administration neglected the law enforcers and allows drug cartel to operate in the country by accepting money from them.<br />
<br />
He believes that President Duterte is not a genocider and not a human rights violator.<br />
<br />
“So President Duterte is not a genocider, he is not a human rights violator, he is a man of law, man of compassion, a man of truth, a man of honesty, he is not bought with a price, he doesn’t serve the oligarchs”<br />
<br />
He was also impressed with the knowledge of common Filipino being more aware about the truth, the world, and the reality happening than most of the people from the west.<br />

Despite the social complexities that the country is currently facing, the Philippines managed to rank 20th among 140 countries that are reportedly able to provide “happiness” to their citizens.<br />
<br />
The result was shown in the 2016 Happy Planet Index (HPI) report of the UK-based think tank New Economic Foundation (NEF) where Costa Rica was tagged as the happiest nation on the planet, an article written by Rhodina Villanueva on The Philippine Star stated.<br />
<br />
The report also mentioned that HPI combines four elements that include life expectancy, rating for well-being, global hectares for ecological footprint, and inequality of outcomes to show how efficiently residents of different countries are using environmental resources to lead long, happy lives.<br />

Happiest nation Costa Rica registered 79.1 years for life expectancy, 7.3 rating for well-being with 10 being the highest, 2.8 global hectares for ecological footprint and 15 percent for inequality of outcomes.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, the Philippines, registered a life expectancy of 67.9 years, which is classified as “middling” or in the middle. Data was provided by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations.<br />
<br />
As explained by the HPI, ecological footprint refers to the average impact that each resident of a country places on the environment while inequality of outcomes mean inequalities between people within a country in terms of how long they live and how happy they feel based on the distribution in each country’s life expectancy and well-being data.<br />
<br />
Based on results, the second happiest place was Mexico, followed by Colombia and Vanuatu, which is in the Asia-Pacific region where the Philippines belongs.<br />
<br />
In fifth place was Vietnam, followed by Panama, Nicaragua, Bangladesh, Thailand, Ecuador, Jamaica, Norway, Albania, Uruguay, Spain, Indonesia and El Salvador.<br />

The Netherlands and Argentina placed 18th and 19th, respectively.<br />

The HPI annual survey of countries – which started in July 2006 – provides a compass to guide nations, and shows that it is possible to live good lives without costing the Earth.”</div>

Jimenez also insinuated that there are two top cops in the Quezon City Police Department that are involved in peddling drugs.<br />

To this, Herbert responded that he is not involved in protecting these cops.<br />

Peter Lavina a campaign spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte slams bishops, rights groups and so-called “presstitutes” on their silence on heinous crimes like rape-killings, amid their criticisms of the government’s war on illegal drugs.<br />

Lavina made a Facebook post about a photo of a nine-year-old girl raped and murdered, along with his criticism of the present government’s critics.<br />

Former NBI Deputy Directors releases a CCTV footage shows the that Janet Lim Napoles is waiting in the office of Former DOJ Secretary Leila De Lima.<br />

According to Former NBI Deputy Director Reynaldo Esmeralda, the CCTV footage was taken on May 13, 2013 in the waiting room of De Lima’s office, before the Pork Barrel Scandal got the attention of the public.<br />
<br />
De Lima removed Esmeralda and another Deputy Director from their positions on 2014, because they are accused of being connected to the Pork Barrel Scam Queen, but they denied it and they showed a CCTV Footage that will prove that Napoles and De Lima are connected.<br />
<br />
According to them, De Lima removed them without any investigation.<br />
<br />
The Former NBI Deputy director claims that they already gathered the evidences that can prove De Lima’s illegal activities in the National Penitentiary before the former DOJ Secretary removed them.<br />

They also shared that some officials are asking to De Lima’s driver Ronnie Dayan for promotion.<br />

With her alleged links to the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison, Sen. Leila de Lima could possibly be slapped with drug and graft charges.<br />

This was disclosed by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre as he revealed that the  Department of Justice would be presenting six witnesses, as well as bank records, that would show De Lima’s complicity in illegal activities inside the New Bilibid Prison, an article published by GMA News Online mentioned.<br />

However, Aguirre said that the bank accounts where the alleged drug money were supposedly being deposited were not under De Lima’s name.<br />

The immediate passage of the bill that would raise the SSS monthly pension is now being pushed by Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.<br />
<br />
The increase in pension aims to alleviate the burden of pensioners in dealing with the increasing cost of living in the country, an article written by Hannah Torregoza on Manila Bulletin disclosed.<br />

With the high cost of living nowadays, Sotto said it is high time that lawmakers amend the Social Security Act of 1997 and raise the amount of pensioners receiving lesser amount. Those already receiving higher pension should be also given minimal increase, he added.</blockquote>

As such, Sotto noted that while it is high time for Congress to adjust pension rates, security that the SSS funds would survive for the next couple of years must first be assured.<br />

Under Senate Bill No. 1068, Sotto said the minimum monthly pension shall be P2,000 from previous P1,200 for at least 10 credited years of service and maximum of P3,000 from the previous P2,400 for those 20 credited years of service.<br />
<br />
The urgency to pass the proposed measure for SSS pensioners, Sotto noted, is primarily because most of the minimum monthly pensioners are those who are in their senior years or ripe old age who are needing more care, assistance, to sustain and survive on a daily basis.</div>

PNP's Highway Patrol Group member Police Officer 3 Jeremiah de Villa suspect over motorcyclist killing of John Dela Riarte, died after jumping from a building in the Philippine National Police's headquarters in Camp Crame on Saturday.<br />

De Villa was facing murder, robbery and administrative charges for the death of John dela Riarte.<br />

HPG director Senior Superintendent Antonio Gardiola confirmed the incident based on their initial investigation that there were no signs of foul play and that the policeman seemed to be not in his psychological state.<br />

Based on a survey conducted early last month by an independent poll, nearly 91 percent of Filipinos support President Rodrigo Duterte’s leadership style.<br />

The result came even after Duterte was heavily criticized over his actions by rights activists, international bodies and outspoken Filipinos that include a top judge, an article published by Philippine Daily Inquirer stated.<br />

Jayeel Cornelio, a doctor of sociology and director of Ateneo de Manila University’s Development Studies Program, said he suspects only a few of Duterte’s supporters are disillusioned by the killings and his rhetoric because voters trust his campaign promise to crush drug criminals.<br />

In addition, Cornelio said they also find resonance in his cursing and no-holds-barred comments. The President’s popularity among his supporters remained intact, he added.<br />

Based on record,  nearly 2,000 suspected drug pushers and users lay dead as morgues continue to fill up barely two months after Duterte assumed his post as the country’s highest official.<br />

No-less than national police chief Ronald dela Rosa confirmed that police have recorded more than 1,900 dead, including 756 suspected drug dealers and users who were gunned down after they resisted arrest.<br />

Dela Rosa noted that over 1,000 other deaths are under investigation in which some cases are not drug-related.<br />
<br />
For his opinion, economic planning secretary Ernesto Pernia said the killings “may be a necessary evil in the pursuit of a greater good.”<br />
<br />
This was proven by a deluge of comments by Duterte supporters in social media deriding his critics and defending the brutal war on drugs.<br />

MANILA, Philippines – No more “8” plates— at least for former congressmen.<br />
<br />
Widely regarded as a symbol of preferential treatment, the protocol plate has been recalled by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez following an NBI operation in which vehicles purportedly belonging to some congressmen were discovered.<br />
<br />
In the memorandum dated August 24 under Secretary General Cesar Pareja’s name, every representative of the lower House belonging to the 16th  Congress and earlier are ordered to return their Protocol Plate No. 8 immediately.<br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“We have received reports that certain vehicles with Protocol Plate No. 8” have been spotted in indecent places or figured in crime-related activities. In view of this development, the Honorable Speaker has given instructions for the immediate recall of all protocol plates issued during the 16th Congress and earlier. Kindly turn in these plates to the Office of the Secretary General for proper acknowledgment,” read the memo.</blockquote>

Alvarez issued the order after vehicles with “8” plates were discovered by NBI operatives following their raid on a cybersex den in Pasay City a week earlier.<br />
<br />
Discovered bearing the protocol plates were a Jaguar, a Ford Expedition, a Hyundai Starex, and a Toyota Avanza.<br />
<br />
Danielito Lalucis of the NBI’s anti-cybercrime division said the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG) was ascertaining whether the vehicles did indeed belong to congressmen.<br />
<br />
For his part, Navotas Rep Toby Tiangco— author of a bill that seeks to criminalize the use of protocol plates— said Alvarez should have extended the recall order to current members of Congress as well.<br />
<br />

In support of the government’s ongoing campaign against drugs, actor James Reid said he is okay with the idea of celebrities undergoing drug tests to prove they’re clean.<br />

Earlier, De Lima dismissed as “rubbish” the “matrix” President Rodrigo Duterte made public that showed her and her former driver/lover  Ronnie Dayan’s alleged involvement in drugs, an article written by Julianne Love De Jesus on Philippine Daily Inquirer mentioned.<br />

Cam said that over the years she felt she was like “a voice in a wilderness” after being ignored. But with the recent turn of events that surfaced when the President publicly lambasted De Lima for her alleged drug ties, Cam said she felt vindicated.<br />

“Kahit sa impiyerno haharapin ko siya. I’m very willing to face her fair and square dahil 2012 pa kaming nagkakabanggan, kahit pinagtatawanan ako noon. At least now I feel vindicated. For so many years like I was a voice in a wilderness na walang umiintindi, walang nakikinig,” Cam was quoted saying.</blockquote>

In stressing this, Cam vowed that more revelations will come out. “‘Wag mo nang sabihing kabulastugan ito lahat dahil lalo ka naming ididiin. Maghintay ka lang. Maraming lulutang, pati ‘yung delivery ng (drug money) sa iyong bahay,” she added; referring to De Lima.</blockquote>

[Don’t say that these are all lies because we will pressure you even more. A lot of revelations will come out including the delivery of drug money to your house.]<br />
<br />
Cam, however, clarified that the President’s information on De Lima’s alleged involvement in drug activities did not come from her but was sourced out from a “vast intelligence network” that could provide the national chief executive evidence against the senator.<br />
<br />
Based on Cam’s revelation,  De Lima was protecting National Bilibid Prison (NBP) inmate and convicted drug lord Jaybee Sebastian, and spared him from surprise raids in the penitentiary because he was reportedly a friend of the former secretary’s friend.<br />
<br />
She likewise stressed that Charlie Quidato, a Bilbid inmate, texted her a week before he was killed inside the Bilibid; saying Sebastian knew Quidato was tipping off intelligence operatives about the Commando Gang leader’s ties with De Lima.<br />

“Sinabi niya lahat paano pumapasok ang pera doon. Imagine, dalawang vault ng pera at may alahas at baril. Ngayon ang tanong ko sa ’yo, De Lima, bakit noong nagre-raid ka sa Bilibid na naka cowboy attire ka pa, ‘yung sinabi mong ‘Bilibid 19’ na dinala mo sa NBI, wala si Jaybee? ‘Yan ang sagutin mo sa taong-bayan,” Cam said as she mentioned the information relayed by Quidato.</blockquote>

Among other things, Cam also accused De Lima of allowing then fugitives former Palawan governor Joel Reyes and his brother, former Coron town mayor Mario Reyes to sneak out of the country when she was still the Justice Secretary.<br />

The siblings were accused as the main personalities behind the killing of broadcaster and environmentalist Gerry Ortega in 2011.<br />
<br />
Also, Cam said that during the campaign period, De Lima was going around the provinces with fugitive former police Senior Supt. Cezar Mancao II. A proof that De Lima coddled the former police officer, she added.</div>

Days after the killing of Atty. Rogelio Bato Jr., police said the slain lawyer of Albuera Rolando Espinosa Sr. and his son suspected drug lord Kerwin was considered a ‘high value’ target in their list of drug personalities.<br />
<br />
“He was on our drug watch list as a level 2 high value target. This means, mataas siya [he’s high up in the rankings]. He belongs to the Espinosa Drug Syndicate,” PRO-8 Regional Director Chief Supt. Elmer Beltejar told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.<br />
<br />
According to Beltejar, Bato handled the cases of the two Espinosas and their members and would receive a monthly payola from the syndicate in return for his services.<br />

“In all our custodial debriefing report, his name always appeared on the list,” he said.</blockquote>

Bato and his 19-year-old (not 15 as earlier reported) companion Angelika Bonita were killed by gunmen inside his vehicle on Tuesday.  Police have yet to establish the identities of the gunmen and the perpetrators.<br />

Meanwhile, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) condemned Bato’s killing.<br />

“’The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers,’ the famous line from Shakespeare’s ‘Henry VI,’ is one of the most misunderstood and misapplied. The context of the statement in the play meant that in order to create chaos and pave the way for tyranny, the best way is to eliminate those who would stand in the way and remove the guardians of independent thinking, the lawyers,” it said.</blockquote>

The IBP also urged the authorities to investigate and bring the killers of lawyers and judges to justice.<br />

“In ending, the IBP strongly appeals to the Philippine National Police, the National Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies to act with dispatch and seriously pursue the conclusion of investigations into the many unresolved killings of lawyers and judges,” it said.</blockquote>

"If you call President Duterte a mass murderer because over 1,000 drug suspects have been killed in the campaign against drugs, what would you call him for ordering his men to prepare a program which would rehabilitate almost 1,000 small-time drug dealers and users?," Piñol said.</blockquote>

Secretary Piñol raised a few questions and shared views for critics to ponder:<br />

Did we hear a squeak or even just a faint sigh when a seven-year-old girl was raped and killed by three drug-crazed men?<br />
<br />

"I am not saying that the killings are right but in the face of the scary reality on the extent of the drug menace in the country, what other options are left for policemen whose lives are also endangered?" he explained.</blockquote>

Does this noisy critics count the number of policemen also killed in the anti-drug operations or the victims of drug crazed criminals.<br />
<br />
So, some people want to criticise the bloody drug war?<br />

He cited Mexico as an example where Mexican Marines are already being engaged in the fight against the drug cartel stating that this experience shows that the failure of government to nip the drug menace at its bud early on resulted in a bloodier situation.<br />

The drug campaign critics will really have to actually feel the pulse of the people in the streets and in the remote areas of the Philippines.<br />
<br />
Secretary Piñol said he could rightfully claim to be the most travelled Cabinet Secretary under President Duterte because in barely two months, he have gone to almost all parts of the country to talk to people, especially farmers and fishermen.<br />

In his journey to the countryside, he made it a point to feel the pulse of the people.<br />
<br />
Last Tuesday, Aug. 23, Secretary Piñol was in Baler, Aurora Province for an engagement arranged by former Senate President Edgardo Angara.<br />
<br />
On his way home and without informing his hosts, He dropped by the Baler Public Market just to see for himself the food commodities available and the prices.<br />
<br />
There he met and talked with many vendors, including a father of a 16-year-old girl.<br />
<br />
Roger Sacatani told him that before the campaign against illegal drugs initiated by President Duterte, he did not allow his teenage daughter to go out with friends at night.<br />
<br />

"Ngayon po pinapayagan ko na ang anak ko na lumabas kasama ang kanyang mga kaibigan," Sacatani said adding that he and all of his neighbors who are parents like him are thankful to President Duterte for making their communities safe.</blockquote>

So, who should we believe?<br />
<br />
The well-heeled critics and the protesters in New York City or the common folk in the communities in the country?<br />
<br />
Still, there's a better way of determining whether President Duterte is right in his campaign and that is to conduct a nationwide survey.<br />

"I would dare say this early that judging by the reaction of people I have talked with, over 90% of the respondents would say they approve of President Duterte and his campaign to confront the evils of drugs." Piñol said.</blockquote>
