Major Harim Gonzaga, 37 years old and a father
of two, was assigned to G3 (Operations), which handles the schedule of PSG
activities, has been confirmed dead by Malacanang after his own wife, a
sergeant in the security force, found his body with a gunshot wound in the
chest area, September 26, Tuesday at around 8:50 AM. The gun used was the
officer’s own .45 caliber pistol.
Sheila Gonzaga had left their quarters to get
something from the office and returned to find her husband dead.
The reason of the said shooting is still
unknown and is being investigated by the authorities.
According to Brigadier General Lope Dagoy, head of the PSG, there were no initial signs of foul play or any indication of a struggle, but police were still investigating.
The wife had said they were not facing any problems apart from Gonzaga’s heavy workload which is normal in the type of job they have.
Gonzaga was in charge of the security force's operations and was not one of the president's personal guards, Dagoy said to the reporters.
He also added that they don’t want any speculations in Gonzaga’s case, so they will let the police dive deeper with their investigations.
PSG said it "will wait for the official findings" of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, as it respects the privacy of Gonzaga's family.
On the other hand, there have been conflicting information as President Duterte’s whereabouts when the incident happen. Even the presidential spokesman, Ernesto Abella, could not confirm where the president.was during that time.
“It’s being investigated and the nature of the situation needs to be clarified. Let this be sufficient at this stage,” Abella said
Asked if the Palace was concerned, Abella said: “Of course it’s a matter of concern but we need to clarify what it’s all about.”
