Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald De la Rosa has placed the entire police force under full alert status nationwide following the powerful explosion in Davao City that killed 15 persons and hurt more than 70 others that prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare a state of lawlessness in the country.

Chief Superintendent Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, PNP director for operations, announced that full alert has been declared nationwide.

“In connection to the explosion incident in Davao City last night, full alert is hereby declared nationwide. All RDs are directed to strengthen and fortify all police stations, detachments and camps to be double alert,” Cascolan said in a statement.

“Likewise, coordinate with all intel and friendly units in your areas and exercise extreme caution in conducting checkpoints,” he said, adding that police directors and chiefs of police will supervise the checkpoints and the “deployment of patrols in areas of convergence and vital installations. Security in seaports, airports, terminals, malls and other public areas should be doubled. All MSRs main supply routes shall have border control points and police security checkpoints and patrols.”

Meanwhile, City of Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada ordered Manila Police District (MPD) Director Joel Coronel to tighten security in the city.

As mentioned in GMA News Online, the Manila mayor directed the 4,500-strong MPD to implement more strict security measures and 24-hour tight watch on public places in the city, such as stations of Light Rail Transit Line 1, hospitals, schools, shopping malls, marketplaces, bus terminals, ports, and places of worship.”

The mayor told his constituents to remain calm, but vigilant at all times. He urged them to report to authorities suspicious individuals and activities in their neighborhood.
