In a speech before the Filipino community during his working visit in Indonesia Friday (Sept. 9), Duterte revealed the closeness of retired Philippine National Police (PNP) deputy director general Marcelo Garbo, Jr. to Roxas.
After reiterating his statement that the Philippines would be worse off had he not won the presidential race, Duterte said: Pero sasabihin ko sa inyo, kung hindi ako nanalo, delikado talaga ang… Why? I’ll tell you, ‘yan si Garbo, general, was the military aide of Roxas. Susmaryosep.”
The President earlier named Garbo as one of the five “narco generals” supposedly involved in the illegal drug trade. He even accused the former PNP official of coddling at least three big-time drug traffickers.
Cebu Rep. Gwen Garcia also accused Garbo of refusing to join her campaign against illegal drugs when she was governor.
Garbo, a known vocal supporter of Roxas, openly campaigned for the Liberal Party’s standard bearer during the 2016 elections.
He has denied Duterte’s allegations.
