A few days ago, President Duterte was misinterpreted in the media and the things he said was blown out of proportion. The media claimed that he threw offensive messages at President Obama.
After which, the latter cancelled their supposed meeting, stating that when he goes to meetings, he wants it to become productive.

In a statement read before the foreign press, Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar quoted the President as saying that Duterte’s strong statements were seen as a personal attack against Obama and was the main reason for the cancellation of the meeting.

“While the immediate cause was my strong comments to certain press questions that elicited concern and distress, we also regret it came across as a personal attack on the US President,”
Their meeting “has been mutually agreed upon to be moved to a later date.”
“Our primary concern is to chart an independent foreign policy while promoting closer ties with all nations, especially the US with whichwe have had a long standing partnership,”
Regarding the President’s statement, Andanar said:
“We look foreard to ironing out differences arising, out of national priorities and perceptions, and working in mutually responsible ways for both countries,”
