After President-elect Rodrigo Duterte's,statements against the media, the country's national association of,newspapers appealed him to dedicate himself to the protection,of journalists and defend the constitutionally, guaranteed freedom of the press.
The Philippine Press,Institute expressed Duterte's claims of many Filipino media, workers are killed for being corrupt and that the freedom,of press cannot, protect them. The PPI said that his announcement, goes against the grain of the statutory protection of the freedom,of the press to report without fear of reprisal.
Stating that Duterte's remarks will, only tend to foster the brazen sense of impunity behind the alarming rise,of journalist deaths in the Philippines. The country's media killings' tenaciousness even earned as second, place on the most dangerous place for the media, just next to war-torn Iraq.
The PPI admitted that, there is definitely corruption within the media, but cannot be used as a stand for attacking journalists. The organization also support that, extrajudicial killing of any form should have no place in,our country, telling Duterte to focus not on the media but the people, behind the media killings.

Duterte's administration then, pressed on that the president-elect's words were,on based on the journalists, killed in Davao and not on the national scale. His spokesman, Salvador,Panelo also wanted to clarify that,Duterte does not approve violence against media.
Even campaign manager, Peter Laviña emphasized that Duterte, himself said that he would creat a task force to,adress the issue at hand and ask for a special prosecutor to focus solely,on these cases.
