On Saturday, the Department of Science, and Technology began the very first Flipino-made hybrid electric train. DOST Secretary Mario,Montejo, incoming DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña, and PNR Chairman Manuel Torres has led the launching at,the Philippine National Railways' (PNR) Tutuban station.
Montejo expressed that, "Very proud tayo...very proud,na kaya naman talaga ng Pilipino na gumawa ng train." According to reports, the DOST has, spent three years in advancing the prototype of the hybrid electric train which describes to be environment, friendly and energy efficient as it both uses diesel and electricity.
Since the hybri train is still developing, commuters may, still have to wait for three to six months before they can use the new trains. PNR Chair,Torres mentioned, "Magpo-provide kami ng mga facility para ma-test pa itong mga, trains na ito. Titignan natin yung durability, safety, at saka, yung efficiency nung, mga train."
Meanwhile, in its original testing, the hybrid, train ran for one kilometer at a speed of 30 km/hour. And after the test, the train will, run from PNR's Tutuban to Calamba stations.
If all else succeeds, DOST will, seek for additional funding to invent more hybrid trains.
On the other hand, Chairman Torres, said that the said trains can be plentiful in helping the Philippines' railway transportation system,as it can also raise the number of trains to handle with the increasing number of passengers.
