MANILA, Philippines – In what could be,a subtle warning to the staunch critics of the Catholic Church, specifically President,Rodrigo Duterte, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop and former Catholic Bishops Conference of the,Philippines (CBCP) president Oscar Cruz said these enemies of the Church should think, twice before waging war against them.
In an interview with Radyo Inquirer, Cruz reminded, their critics that the Church has been under attack for more than two thousand, years and yet it remains strong and unsinkable.
“Marami nang tumuligsa diyan, kaliwa’t-kanan. Lahat ng mga iyon, nakabaon na, six feet under the ground, ‘yung Simbahan andiyan pa rin,” said Cruz.

[Many have clobbered the Church left and right. Yet all of them, are buried six feet under the ground now and the Church is still standing.]
“Ang ibig kong sabihin, isang aral ang matingkad dito, huwag mong kalabanin, ang Simbahan, hindi ka tatagal,” the prelate added.
[What I’m trying to say is, there is a distinct lesson to,learn from this, never wage war with the Church, you won’t last.]
While Cruz admitted that Duterte’s continued, tirades against the Church and the priests has affected some of their followers, the number,is, however, considerably small.’
“Hanggang ngayon po ay siksikan pa rin sa,Simbahan e. Wala akong makitang misa na bakante ang mga silya,” said Cruz.
[Until now the churches remain crowded. I have, never been to a mass where all the seats are vacant.]
Duterte had been at odds with the Catholic,Church even before he assumed the presidency last year. Cruz, a staunch Duterte critic has campaigned, against the latter in the May election.
Duterte lashes back at the priests by reviving, old accusations such as sexual abuses allegedly committed by the prelates and, alleged corruption within the institution.
