President Rodrigo Duterte on,Thursday, February 2, has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to stop from conducting,anti-illegal drugs operations just days after the Anti-Illegal Drugs Unit of the Philippine,National Police (PNP) was ordered dissolved.

During his speech at the 38th National,Convention of the Philippines Associations of Water Districts in Davao City, the President said he is,ordering the NBI to stop its anti-illegal drugs operations because he lost his trust in the agency.


“As of now, there are no policemen in the,entire country enforcing drug laws, and I want to add even the NBI. The bureau is suspended from,imposing drug laws. Sali kayo. Nawalan na ako ng tiwala sa inyo [You (The NBI) are also,included because I lost my trust in you],” the President said.

As per an ABS-CBN story dated,February 2, 2017, the President has made the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, with the assistance of the,Armed Forces of the Philippines, as the lead agency in the government’s anti-illegal,drugs campaign.

“I still have to write the, whether it’s proclamation, executive order [suspending the drug operations of the PNP and the NBI]. But I’ve taken in,the AFP and raised the issue of drugs as national security threat so the PDEA can call armed forces to assist. For the mean time, there will be a cleansing of purge inside the Camp,Crame (PNP) and the NBI,” President Duterte said.
