Environmentalists were celebrated after Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) led by Secretary Gina Lopez announced that they closed 21 mining firms after they found that the mentioned companies severely destroyed the environment.

Illegal cutting of trees, contamination of rivers and destruction of watersheds are some of the violations committed by the mining firms closed by DENR.

They also deferred 1 mining firm and suspended another six.

These are the mining firms ordered to be closed by DENR:

  1. BenguetCorp Nickel Mines Inc. (ZAMBALES)
  2. Eramen Minerals Inc.(ZAMBALES)
  3. Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation. (ZAMBALES)
  4. LNL Archipelago Minerals Inc. (ZAMBALES)
  5. Mt. Sinai Mining Exploration and Development Corp. (HOMONHON)
  6. Emir Minerals Corp.(HOMONHON)
  7. Techlron Mineral Resources Inc.(HOMONHON)
  8. AAMPHIL Natural Resources Exploration (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  9. Kromico, Inc. (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  10. SinoStreel Philippines H.Y. Mining Corporation (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  11. Oriental Synergy Mining Corporation (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  12. Wellex Mining Corporation (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  13. Libjo Mining Corporation (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  14. Oriental Vision Mining Philippines Corp. (DINAGAT ISLANDS)
  15. ADNAMA Mining Resources Corporation. (SURIGAO DEL NORTE)
  16. CLAVER Mineral Development Corp. (SURIGAO DEL NORTE)
  17. Platinum Development Corp.(SURIGAO DEL NORTE)

  6. Strong Built Mining Development Corporation.

Deferred:

  1. Filimera Resources Corporation



DENR also knew that many mining workers would be affected, but the condition of the people in these mining areas was more important.
