In a privilege speech, Pacquiao took offense at Trillanes’ statement that senators are not saints to doubt that it was indeed “spiritual renewal” that made retired cop Arthur Lascañas recant his testimony last year denying the Davao Death Squad’s existence.

“The statement of my colleague is very offended to me because para bang hindi akong totoong tao (sic). Para bang yung pagiging Christian ko ay fake. That’s my understanding. that’s a very offended to me (sic). Good thing I have Jesus in my life or else I will run to his chair and hit him (Trillanes) right away,” Pacquiao said.

“Kahit sinuman, kung ako may tinatago man o may pagbabanta sa akin, sasabihin ko totoo dahil alam ko pag namatay ako ay kapiling ko si Jesus Christ. That’s my understanding of spiritual renewal,” he added.

During the Senate hearing on Lascañas’ revelations Wednesday (March 7), Pacquiao refused to believe Lascañas’ claim taht he lied under oath when he appeared before senators last October because he was under duress.

Lascañas now admitted that the DDS existed and President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the group to carry out certain killings when he was mayor of Davao City.

Pacquiao took to the floor to deliver his own privilege speech after Trillanes spoke out slamming his colleagues for doubting Lascañas’ testimony on account of their spiritual beliefs.

“Just to remind everyone, na nag aral naman tayo para marunong mag respeto sa kapwa. And like I said, when you got interviewed outside by the media, do not attack your colleagues or else…hindi naman natin iniwanan ang bayag bayag natin. Dala dala natin yung bayag natin,” the neophyte senator said.

While Pacquiao acknowledged that Trillanes has every right to express his opinion on issues, he tried to give him a lecture by reminding the latter that he need not have to attack his own colleagues.

“Wala po akong intention na pigilin ang karapatan ng ating kasama. Just don’t give us a bad name. It is good to be reminded that our primary role is to legislate and when we conduct hearings or investigations, they should always be in aid of legislation,” he said.

Trillanes was prompted to apologize to Pacquiao saying that he did not mean to offend anyone.

“Let me apologize to Sen. Pacquiao if he was offended but hindi ganun ang intention,” Trillanes said before approaching his colleague to shake hands.
