This was after the Philippine National,Police (PNP) announced that a total of 1,858 cops from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have been,deployed for the event to maintain peace and order.
Apart from this, around 150 men from the,Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), The Philippine Navy and the PNP-Maritime Group were assigned to,man 18 boats and ships that will be patrolling the coastal area in Pasay City and Manila for added security.
The MOA arena has also been,declared as a no-fly zone throughout the event.
Not less than 300 police officers will be,deployed inside the arena for the security of the candidates alone, this was according to,NCRPO chief Oscar Albayalde.
“The coordination is very critical here. We need,coordination between us and the security inside, and the management and coordinators,of the Miss Universe,” said Albayalde.
Two teams from the Special Weapons and,actics (SWAT) will also be joining to ensure that the authorities are ready to respond in,case of any untoward incident.
Albayalde added that the PNP has been on,heightened alert for possible ‘retaliatory act’ from the terrorist group following the death of leader,Ansar Al-Khilafa early this month, although there were no imminent threats that have been monitored.
All exit and entry points will be manned,by an x-ray machine, although there will be no signal jammer for cellphones in the area.
“All eyes will be on the Philippines, rightfully,we will take this opportunity to showcase the country as a tourist destination. Not only that, the peace,and order situation of the country will be highlighted,” said a ranking PNP official.
An estimated 15,000 guests including VIPs like,President Rodrigo Duterte and other top government officials are expected to attend the coronation night of the,Miss Universe pageant which was last held in the country in 1994.
