3 Abu Sayyaf Members Arrested Tasked to Conduct Bomb Attack in Zamboanga City
Three men believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were arrested in a pre-dawn raid in a village in Zamboanga on Friday, September 9.

Police Regional Office 9 Director Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran identified the suspects as Jamar Musa, 44;  Ahmad Tandih, 33; and Omar Kumbing, 36, all natives of Parang town in Sulu.

According to a Philstar article dated September 9, 2016, Chief Superintendent Beltran said that based on interrogation and intelligence reports, the three suspects, who are allegedly under the ASG’s Ajang-Ajang sub-group, were tasked with staging a bomb attack in Zamboanga City.

“The three ASG members were allegedly tasked to conduct bombing operation in Zamboanga City as monitored by the intelligence community since September 4, 2016,” Beltran said.

Recovered from the suspects were one caliber .38 pistol with 6 pieces of live ammunition, camouflage uniform, a fragmentation grenade and two cellphones.

The arrest of the suspects, according to Beltran, was the result of the intensified Law Enforcement Operation against ASG members who continue to seek terror in Zamboanga Peninsula. He said the three were among those who slipped from Sulu due to intensive military operations.
