MANILA, Philippines – Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao was forced to clarify that he is not related, in any case, to the police officer who is also surnamed Dumlao and is being accused of masterminding the kidnapping and murder of Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo.
Sr. Supt. Glenn Dumlao, the chief of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) is leading the investigation on Supt. Rafael Dumlao III, the Anti-Illegal Drugs Group (AIDG) head, and other police officers in Jee’s alleged ‘tokhang-for-ransom’ case.
During a press conference Sr. Supt. Dumlao said he does not personally know nor have worked with Rafael Dumlao before even if both of them are police officers at Camp Crame.

“Siya [Rafael] Dumlao, namesake ko iyun. So hindi po kami nagsama nung bata. Hindi ko po alam iyung nanay niya o iyung father niya,” Glenn Dumlao explained in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
[He is just my namesake. But we never worked together. I don’t know his mother or father.]
[It’s only normal for us to say ‘Oh you are a Dumlao too’ during chance meeting. That’s all.]
Also, PNP chief Dir. Gen. Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa said Glenn Dumlao, the investigator, should not be confused with Rafael Dumlao, the suspect.
[Don’t confuse Superintendent Dumlao with the suspect and, besides, this is a Senior Superintendent Dumlao who is investigating.]
To refresh the memory of some readers, Sr. Supt. Glenn Dumlao became sort of a household name during the early 2000s at the height of the investigation of the Bobby Dacer-Emmanuel Corbito double murder case.
He was among those charged with the killing of the Dacer and Corbito, and even implicated then President Joseph Estrada and Ping Lacson in the highly-publicized case.
After fleeing to the United States in 2003, he was arrested five years later along with another suspect, Supt. Michael Ray Aquino.
Dumlao went back to the country in 2009, turned state witness and defended Senator Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson from the allegation of masterminding the killing of Dacer and Corbito.
“Normal lang na ‘pag nagkita kayo dito at nakita kong Dumlao, ‘O Dumlao ka.’ That’s all,” he said.

“Wag ninyong ipag-ganoon-ganoon ‘yung Superintendent Dumlao na suspect at saka itong Senior Superintendent Dumlao na nag-iimbestiga,” said Dela Rosa.
