According to Poe, Dela Rosa seemed to be a trustworthy and sincere person based on their exchanges in the Senate.
“Based on what I have observed, I trust him because he is confident,” she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “We talk to a lot of people in the Senate, but I believe he’s more sincere compared with the others we have talked to.”
Such trustworthiness, Poe pointed out, is the reason why Dela Rosa has confidence of the people notwithstanding his tendency to get carried away with his statements at times.
Dela Rosa has since apologized for the remark, saying he pitied drug users who are being used by drug lords to enrich themselves.
The senator also noted that Dela Rosa is far more approachable and articulate than his predecessor Alan Purisima.
Purisima is facing charges of graft in connection with an anomalous deal involving a courier service he allegedly favored to deliver renewed firearm licenses to gun owners.
Purisima’s formal trial is set to begin on November 28.
“Right now, I can say that I trust him. I think he’s sincere with his mandate, although he tends to get carried away sometimes,” she said, referring to his earlier statement urging drug surrenderees to kill drug lords.
Dela Rosa has since apologized for the remark, saying he pitied drug users who are being used by drug lords to enrich themselves.
The senator also noted that Dela Rosa is far more approachable and articulate than his predecessor Alan Purisima.
“He looks like a cute teddy bear who turns out to be a difficult communicator,” Poe said of the former PNP chief.
