Our newly elected President Rodrigo Duterte has given us high hopes and a new dream for our country, to the belief that we are now in good hands. To be able to improve our security and welfare, Globe officially announced that they would be charging additional Php5.00 fee aside from the regular voice charges to 911 call.

The Globe General Counsel Froilan Castelo emphasized the importance of charging an additional fee; this is to discourage any prank calls that will occur in the near future.

Globe was given a strict deadline for 30-45 days to be able to improve and work on the transmission of SMS and voice calls for 911 hotline and 8888.

Starting on August 1, 2016, emergency hotline 911 and 8888 as the complaint hotline will be available to everyone who are in need.

Here’s the full message from Globe General Counsel Froilan Castelo:

As a telecommunications provider, Globe recognizes the importance of such communication tool for the government to effectively carry out its initiatives for the benefit of the public. We are also expediting migration of our system to immediately enable transmission of SMS or text messages thru 8888 and we are confident that we will be able to achieve this target within the timeframe of 30-45 days given to us by the government.

We think that this is indeed the best way if not prevent then lessen prank calls, just like what provinces have with long distance phone calls where each call attempt is charged at a price.
