Despite the issues thrown at the aggressive anti-drug,campaign of the current administration, Public Attorney Office or PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta came to,their defense and said that the number of deaths compared to the number of drug, users and suspects is actually negligible.
Quoting from her statement, she said,
"The number of those who surrendered since yesterday is 63,000. Then those, who were killed are more than 100. If you compare them, it’s almost negligible, that’s my point,".
She also claimed that the police only resorts,to killing when the suspects fight back.
With this, she said "“If you blame the deaths,on the policemen, that would be unfair because those who surrendered were not, killed by the police. They’re still alive,”
She also urged the public to not, discourage the police force on their jobs saying "Our police force, of whom there are many good policemen, are, convincing drug pushers to surrender. Let’s not discourage the police from doing their jobs,”
The lawyer also expressed her, support to the PNP Chief, Bato Dela Rosa.
It looks like General Bato’s intelligence, that those who have killed the suspects are syndicates who don’t want to be identified,” she said. “The syndicates are moving to,limit the number of people who can reveal them.”
