President Rodrigo Duterte arrived at the Villamor Airbase to lead the arrival honors of the eight slain members of the Philippine Marines that got killed in action in Marawi City on Friday.

Duterte approaches the coffins of eight slain soldiers and talked to their families who went emotional after seeing their love ones who got killed during the battle in Marawi.

Thirteen Marines were confirmed killed in action and 40 were wounded during the intense fourteen hour firefight between the government forces and Maute Terrorist Group on Friday.

Even the Marines who led the discovery of the cash and cheque worth ₱80-M 1st Lt. Frederick Savellano was also killed in action.

The terrorist allegedly used human shields that made the operation of the Marines difficult.

“We salute the enormous display of heroism and raw courage of these fallen Marines in the course of the fight to clear Marawi of the remaining members of the Maute-Isis Group,” Lt. Gen. Carlito Galvez, chief of the Western Mindanao Command said in a press conference on June 10.
