Despite the social complexities that the country is currently facing, the Philippines managed to rank 20th among 140 countries that are reportedly able to provide “happiness” to their citizens.<br />
<br />
The result was shown in the 2016 Happy Planet Index (HPI) report of the UK-based think tank New Economic Foundation (NEF) where Costa Rica was tagged as the happiest nation on the planet, an article written by Rhodina Villanueva on The Philippine Star stated.<br />
<br />
The report also mentioned that HPI combines four elements that include life expectancy, rating for well-being, global hectares for ecological footprint, and inequality of outcomes to show how efficiently residents of different countries are using environmental resources to lead long, happy lives.<br />

Happiest nation Costa Rica registered 79.1 years for life expectancy, 7.3 rating for well-being with 10 being the highest, 2.8 global hectares for ecological footprint and 15 percent for inequality of outcomes.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, the Philippines, registered a life expectancy of 67.9 years, which is classified as “middling” or in the middle. Data was provided by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations.<br />
<br />
As explained by the HPI, ecological footprint refers to the average impact that each resident of a country places on the environment while inequality of outcomes mean inequalities between people within a country in terms of how long they live and how happy they feel based on the distribution in each country’s life expectancy and well-being data.<br />
<br />
Based on results, the second happiest place was Mexico, followed by Colombia and Vanuatu, which is in the Asia-Pacific region where the Philippines belongs.<br />
<br />
In fifth place was Vietnam, followed by Panama, Nicaragua, Bangladesh, Thailand, Ecuador, Jamaica, Norway, Albania, Uruguay, Spain, Indonesia and El Salvador.<br />

The Netherlands and Argentina placed 18th and 19th, respectively.<br />

The HPI annual survey of countries – which started in July 2006 – provides a compass to guide nations, and shows that it is possible to live good lives without costing the Earth.”</div>

Peter Lavina a campaign spokesman of President Rodrigo Duterte slams bishops, rights groups and so-called “presstitutes” on their silence on heinous crimes like rape-killings, amid their criticisms of the government’s war on illegal drugs.<br />

Lavina made a Facebook post about a photo of a nine-year-old girl raped and murdered, along with his criticism of the present government’s critics.<br />

The immediate passage of the bill that would raise the SSS monthly pension is now being pushed by Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.<br />

The increase in pension aims to alleviate the burden of pensioners in dealing with the increasing cost of living in the country, an article written by Hannah Torregoza on Manila Bulletin disclosed.<br />

With the high cost of living nowadays, Sotto said it is high time that lawmakers amend the Social Security Act of 1997 and raise the amount of pensioners receiving lesser amount. Those already receiving higher pension should be also given minimal increase, he added.</blockquote>

As such, Sotto noted that while it is high time for Congress to adjust pension rates, security that the SSS funds would survive for the next couple of years must first be assured.<br />
<br />
Earlier under the Aquino administration, similar measure has been vetoed on the ground for fear that the state-run pension fund would be depleted in the long run.<br />
<br />
Under Senate Bill No. 1068, Sotto said the minimum monthly pension shall be P2,000 from previous P1,200 for at least 10 credited years of service and maximum of P3,000 from the previous P2,400 for those 20 credited years of service.<br />
<br />
The urgency to pass the proposed measure for SSS pensioners, Sotto noted, is primarily because most of the minimum monthly pensioners are those who are in their senior years or ripe old age who are needing more care, assistance, to sustain and survive on a daily basis.</div>

President Rodrigo Duterte imagined himself running after his daughter Inday Sara’s triplets by the time of his retirement; saying he could not be happier that he will soon be a grandfather to three more children.<br />

In an article written by Trisha Macas of GMA News Online, it was disclosed that the president wishes good health on his daughter and the triplets.<br />

I knew something was up after finding a bottle,of champagne and two glasses hidden in my closet. So I do what any sensible man,would have done; I leave and go to my friend’s house pretending like I am going out of town. While,at my friend’s place I call up her mother, father, sister and several of her friends. I tell them how I want to give,her a big surprise by sneaking into our room with party streamers, kazoos and a,big cake with candles.<br />

5. The Big Day<br />
I had everyone meet me outside,our apartment at 8:30 in the morning. We all pile in the elevator (about 8 of us in total); her mother is,holding the cake and I’m reminding everyone to be as quiet as they can be. I put my key in and unlock the door; we all sneak,in and make our way down the hall towards the,bedroom.<br />
Well as I throw,open the door, we all yell surprise!<br />
But the surprise,was on us and there…<br />

6. Best Present Ever!<br />
The surprise was actually on,us and there was my wife, butt naked with her lover staring at us wide eyed. Mom drops the cake, sister screams, the father begins,to shout. I pretend like I’m horrified to which her friends try to push,everyone out while yelling at her. My wife, excuse me, ex-wife is sobbing and screaming how could I while the,lover is desperately trying to put his pants on while running out of the place. Needless to say, it was,one of the best birthday presents I have ever given.</div>

Mindoro, the large island just off the coast of,Batangas with vast agriculture and fisheries potentials, gets a first taste of the governance style of,President Rody Duterte when the Department of Agriculture holds its first “Tapatan: Gobyerno at Masa.”<br />

Unlike the usual government,caucuses, however, the Mindoro engagement will be marked by the delivery of machineries and equipment, including motorized,small fishing boats which were requested during my earlier,visit to the island last month.<br />
<br />
Three weeks ago, shortly after,President Duterte named me as his Agriculture Secretary, I launched a nation-wide journey which I called “Biyaheng Bukid” which,brought me to the two provinces of Mindoro.<br />
<br />
I saw the vast potentials of Mindoro especially,in rice production because of its water resources flowing from the mountain ranges of Mt. Halcon,which separates Occidental from Oriental Mindoro.<br />
<br />
In my informal talks with the farmers,and fisherfolk, I found out that somehow they felt that it was very difficult to ask for help from government,and that if assistance ever came, it took a long while before it is delivered.<br />
<br />
So on July 6, after my engagement in,Los Baños, Laguna with the rice sector stakeholders, I will proceed to Mindoro by taking the fast,craft from Batangas Port.<br />
<br />
I will proceed to a Mangyan community,and hold a face-to-face consultation with members of the tribe who have largely been marginalized,and neglected.<br />
<br />
Actually, my decision to spend the night,in Barangay Matula-tula, Pola town was spurred by the conversation I had with a Mangyan,farmer who waited for me in Magsaysay town until 9 p.m. just to tell me what they wanted to get from,government.<br />

You know what he asked me? Just a road,leading to the village, work animals and seeds.<br />
<br />
I was touched because I have heard that same,story many times before when I was Governor of North Cotabato.<br />

His story is the story of many other poor,Filipinos dreaming of the day when government would be able to touch their lives.<br />
<br />
These are the people who are not even aware,that while it may seem to be farfetched dream to have a road built leading to their village, thieves in,government count their loot by the billions of pesos.<br />
<br />
On Wednesday night, I will tell them that President,Duterte cares for them and he will deliver his promise of change.<br />
<br />
The following day, I will proceed to Bongabong town,in Oriental Mindoro and meet with farmers and fisherfolk.<br />
<br />
The DA still has some tractors, fishing boats,and irrigation water pumps left in its inventory and these will be turned over to the beneficiaries,who have already been identified.<br />
<br />
To correct the practice in the past of,indiscriminate distribution of equipment, the units which will be released to the beneficiaries on July 7 will be geo-tagged,and the names of the farmers who will receive these will be included in,a data base which DA will keep.<br />
<br />
I have also asked the teams preparing for my,first rural sortie who make sure that the needed orientation and social preparations for the,beneficiaries are conducted.<br />
<br />
Many in the DA will certainly need a lot,of adjustments to this new style of governance.<br />
<br />
But this is the Duterte style. He wants,every Filipino to feel that he is part of government and he would like to see that government,services are delivered, not promised.</div>

Before officially leaving the Malacañang, President Benigno,Aquino III has finally signed the law that will grant P100,000 cash incentive,and additional benefits to all Filipino who reach the age of 100 and above, or called as 'centenarians.'</div>

The law is under the Republic,Act 10868 was signed by Aquino last June 23, 2016, almost a week left in his term. This was confirmed by Albay,Representative Edcel Lagman, the primary proponent of the measure in the House of,Representatives. This rooted from the provision requested for businesses to give a 75-percent discount on,goods and services to customers who are 100 years old and up. But the administration,claimed that it was "too heavy" for businessess to bear. </div>

So Aquino vetoed the bill to compensate,for not approving that mandate. Under this Republic Act, all Filipinos who reached and will reach 100,years will receive letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines and a P100,000 cash gift, regardless,if they are in the Philippines or in abroad. </div>

Furthermore, they will awarded with a plaque,of recognition and additional cash gift from their local governments during the National Respect for,Centenarians Day every 25th of September. </div>

Quoting from his statement he said "“I am especially,excited for the 3,500 Filipino centenarians who will be conferred with the recognition,they rightfully deserve and of course their P100,000.00 cash gift very soon,” He added that he is thankful to,Aquino for signing the bill before he steps down. “Just in the nick of time! I must say it,was really a long wait but it was well worth the wait. [On] behalf of all the co-authors of the Centenarians Act, I would like,to thank our President for giving it the green light at last,” he said. </div>
